200 years of Cologne Carnival! The most colourful and loudest festival in Cologne celebrates a big birthday. In February 1823, a few men from Cologne's upper class founded the so-called 'Festordnende Komitee' - the forerunner of today's 'Festkomitee Kölner Karneval'. This 'big bang' was a reaction to the old festival getting out of hand in orgies and violence. Carnival was in danger. A ban by the Prussian rulers was imminent. The new committee wanted to control the wild goings-on, establish rules and organise the celebrations.

Monika and Nadja are sisters and ballet dancers. Lately, Monika has lost some of her interest in ballet. Instead, she marries the businessman Ragnar. But eventually, she discovers that the comfortable life she has does not suit her, and returns to the ballet academy.

Composed in 1824, Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9" will celebrate its bicentennial in 2024. With its famous finale based on Schiller's poem "An die Freude" (Ode to Joy), this colossal work is now one of the symbols of European unity. How was this symphony created? The shooting of a movie is to take place in Rio de Janeiro. The script states that an actor is to shoot himself. The director wants to demonstrate how he imagines this scene. When he takes the revolver and pulls the trigger, he actually falls to the ground. The crew is horrified when they realize that the ammunition was live and the director is lying dead on the floor.
